At long last, I have landed a job in my hometown. The 140 mile r/t commute, 3 hours of driving and $350 monthly fuel bills (and automotive upkeep that is associated with the high mileage) will be gone on December 8. I will be driving 5 miles each way and now the car will not even have enough time to warm up. Creating a whole new set of problems...
I will no longer be working in an automotive related field but will be working in an office as an administrative assistant. Yep, I'll be a 49 year old male secretary. It will be a huge improvement for my mental health. The plus side for me is that I won't have to put up with the old incompetent idiots and will probably have a whole new group of them to learn about.
The old job will suffer because I'm their top seller and I have the most knowledge for our products and services at the RV shop. Bummer for them.

My drive is 3 miles everyday, it causes some issues with older cars. That's one of the many reasons my DD is a lease. They never get old enough for it to matter and I don't have to give a fuck about what the inside of my cylinders look like.

Where I am the admin assistants are the only people in the office you don't want to piss off. They wield a hell of a lot of power.
Good luck and enjoy the massive amounts of new free time.

Wait, you were in RV sales?
You should write a post detailing the behind the scenes stuff that goes on at an RV dealer if so. Would be interesting to see how it differs from a car dealer.

Congratulations! On the contrary, I took a job outside of my hometown and now travel 53 miles r/t because I couldn't separate work and home

Contrats!!! I made a similar move about 4 years ago. Except I moved closer to the office. Getting used to the "I'm home already?" feeling was a bit strange. Sleeping in later was awesome!

5 miles should be enough for a decent warm up, unless it's like a high speed straight shot right to work. If so, may I just suggest kicking off work a few minutes early and taking a longer and "more spirited" drive home. ; )

The parent company sells RVs but the location I'm at does not. There are stories. I'm glad that I'm not going to be a commission compensated employee any more. Some of the other commissioned people at my location are greedy mf's. They can write their own checks. If they think a custom job will take 4 hours, that is what they're paid and that is what I have to sell. The job may only take 2 hours but he wants the 4 hours, nothing less. I get commission of about $6 per hour sold but nothing on the products. I don't mind earning the pay but I don't like screwing anyone and sometimes that is what it feels like.
The dealer locations have a pretty bad reputation especially the one located across town from where I'm located. The salesmen will tell the customer ANYTHING to close a deal. The current wait time to schedule service at the dealer location is something like 4 weeks. My non dealer location doesn't do any factory warranty repair but we can do oil changes, tires, accessory installations and service on the RV appliances and other stuff like that usually within a couple of days.
